Fabacher's Grill is at the corner of Old Shell and University, in the small shopping centre that houses the liquor store, the gymnastics place, Domino's Pizza, and a haircut place. I don't know what the plaza is called, but I know Fabacher's is still there. I dropped by in January on my way through town. Just wanted to let you know in case you wanted to add it. They're a great (clean) little establishment with some of the biggest and best hamburgers in Mobile. Sports is the main atmosphere, and it's been a favourite for pre-game and post-game celebrations for both USA and Spring Hill (location is PERFECT). It also serves as a killer place to watch any pro sport (or non local college).
The best thing about Fabacher's is the size and intimacy of it along with the friendliness of the staff. It was something like our Cheers, and new faces became old friends in a matter of a couple visits. Fabacher's has also found a way to capitalize on the market for live entertainment and a bar feel by doing intimate shows with local favorites like Wes Loper, Adelayda, and Ugli Stick. On those nights, the restaurant transforms successfully from a sit-down restaurant to a bar worthy of Dauphin Street, complete with a very small cover charge and a full bar.
The best part about that is the close proximity to campus lowers the number of drunk college kids on the road. It's possible to WALK back to your dorm--or at least to Solomon's to soak up the beer. . . Parking is barely adequate and the design of the shopping centre itself makes it a bit hard to find but also serves to keep patrons safely away from the traffic of the all-too-narrow Old Shell Road and the ever busy University Blvd.

Can there be such a thing as a hip pizza? Finally, so we're told, Mobile has gotten a Mellow Mushroom. Since its on the USA campus doorstep its big with the university crowd, but the downtowners make the trek there too. They must know something.
